Recently, one of Think Out Here’s students, Charlotte Nip, got the opportunity to interview the band Wildlife for Youthink Magazine. The article is called “Wildlife’s Essay on the Heart“.  They are an indie rock group from Canada. This was Charlotte’s first oppotunity to do a professional interview, and it was a total success!

Charlotte is a grade 11 student at Burnaby North Secondary School. She is in the AP program and participates in many clubs and extracurricular activities, such as student government, tutorial leadership, Karing for Kids, Christmas Cheer, and yearbook committee.

Think Out Here is very proud of Charlotte. All of her hard work has paid off! One of her dreams is to become a professional journalist, and it seems like she is on her way!

Charlotte is the perfect example of how being coachable and determined can lead to success.

Below is Charlotte’s account of her experience with Think Out Here and her opportunity to interview Wildlife.

Experience with Think Out Here:

I became familiar with Think Out Here when I was in grade 7 through my friend’s mother. She introduced Diana Lum, the founder of Think Out Here, to my mother, and soon, she became my English tutor. Throughout these four years, I have worked with Diana to improve on my grammar, spelling, punctuation, and essay writing. She motivated me even when I was reluctant. She also taught me a lot about life and business; she is my tutor, but she is also my friend. Whether it was a project for school, essay assignment, or extra practice, I worked gradually to overcome each obstacle. Diana gave me a new perspective on school and learning. Before I only thought good grades should be my goal through school, but Diana urged me to join clubs and get different experiences.

How I got the opportunity:

I obtained the internship with Youthink Magazine through my school’s work experience program in the winter. I saw a listing on the school bulletin board and eagerly asked the Career Program’s teachers about information on this opportunity. Within a few weeks, I was given the job and signed up to complete this internship. I emailed the Youthink Magazine editor to introduce myself, and within a few months, I was on my way to Youthink Magazine for my first day of work, to live my dream and face the world with what I had learned throughout the years.

How Think Out Here helped:

Think Out Here has helped with the basic fundamentals that I needed to have in order to write professionally. Article writing is quite different from literary essay writing. I needed to know how to write in the correct paragraph form, how to write concisely, and how to write grammatically correct in order to maintain the standard of a journalist. Think Out Here has helped me reach a level of sophistication in my writing and given me confidence to face challenges when I write.

Charlotte’s achievement is fantastic. Think Out Here is extremely happy for her and what she has accomplished. If you’d like to book tutoring or become a better writer , feel free to contact Think Out Here and get some tutoring today!
